Q. How do I request an article from Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

Save time by first checking to see if Buley Library already has full-text access to the article you need. The quickest way to do this is to search for the article or book chapter in SouthernSearch (for best results, login to SouthernSearch). You can also use the many discipline specific databases available through the library.

Look for the Find@Southern button in the library’s online resources. This link helps you locate full-text articles and book chapters. If full text is unavailable, you will be given the option to submit an Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad) request. Using this option automatically fills in the request form with the article or book chapter details, saving you time.

Placing a Request in ILLiad

When you have the citation for an article or book chapter, you can submit a request manually:

1. Log in to the ILLiad Interlibrary Loan system. 
2. From the Main Menu, select New Requests, then choose Article or Book Chapter. 
   
3. Enter as much information as possible. Title and Author/Editor are required, but additional details help us find your resource faster. 
4. Pro Tip: Adding an ISSN or DOI helps the system process your request automatically. Without one, ILL staff will need to review your request manually. 
5. Select Submit Request. 
6. Sit back while we work our ILL magic! 

Many requests are completed within 24 hours, but some may take several days. You will receive an email when your article or book chapter is ready to view in the ILLiad Interlibrary Loan system.
